Jiang Yao's father-in-law and Tang Shi's legitimate son. He was eleven or twelve when the Dongping Houfu fell. He fell in love with Lu Fang, the daughter of an old Cultivated Talent, and married her as his first wife. Tang Shi forced him to demote Lu Fang and marry his cousin Liu Shi. He lives in the side courtyard with Lu Fang and has essentially fallen out with his mother. He worries about Jiang Yao and hopes she can escape the Pei family, which he calls a den of wolves.
