The patriarch of the Wang family, in his seventies with three sons. He was once a landlord but a good man who did not bully common people. During the Cultural Revolution, the Red Guards raided his home, but he had secretly buried some wealth which helped the family survive. He was locked up for a few months solely because his sons' names formed the word Kuomintang. He desperately promised his granddaughter to Mr. Chen to save his remaining two sons.
