He climbs a tree with Zhou Yinghuai and Luo Jiawang to escape the wild boars. He is calm under pressure and skilled with his bow and arrow. After the incident, he is in awe of Zhou Yinghuai's efficiency and composure, finding his legs weak from fear and admiration. He lends Zhou Yinghuai his knife and is stunned by how quickly and cleanly Zhou Yinghuai retrieves the bullet casing.
