Male lead, Shu Nian's husband. A military captain (referred to as Captain Nie) who is tall, broad-shouldered, with a narrow waist, standing at least 6'1". He is described as a good man who defended his country. He returned home occasionally from the army. His parents arranged his marriage to the original Shu Nian. He is extremely angry after catching his wife flirting with other men and initially refuses to believe her explanations. He has a intimidating presence with a murderous glare. On their wedding day, he received a temporary task and hurried back to the army.
