Middle-aged man, Mu Xiaoqi's father. He was once in love with Jiang Xueqin but was hindered by Mu family elders and ended up marrying Xu Jiayun of equal social standing. He is described as gentle and reasonable. He gets angry at Mu Xiaoqi's stubbornness but is softened by her tears which remind him of his deceased wife. He pretends to read a book when Mu Xiaoqi returns home, avoiding confrontation.
