Shu Qingyao's piano teacher, an old man who studied abroad before the founding of the country. He lives in a communal apartment building and never married. He had many piano apprentices but regretted not finding a talented successor. He was initially angry at Qingyao for leaving for the countryside but was impressed by Xie Xiaoqian's piano skills.
