Real name Duan Zhishu, courtesy name Huanzhi. A brilliant scholar who once topped the academy examinations but suffered paralysis in both legs after a fall from a mountain, ending his official career. He is now wheelchair-bound, over forty, with white strands in his black hair. Eccentric and stern, he only accepts students he favors. He tests Shaohuai and Jin by having them write with water in an ink-washing jar for over forty days before accepting them as students.
