Madam Tong Jia
Madam Tong Jia is the mother of Consort Tong Jia (Noble Consort Tong Jia). She is a wise and experienced woman who has strong beliefs about child-rearing and fortune. She advises her daughter to send the Fourth Prince away, believing that an adopted child can steal the fortune meant for one's own child. She claims her own daughter's miscarriage was caused by the Fourth Prince's ill influence. Madam Tong Jia speaks from what she considers experience — she refused to adopt when her maternal grandmother urged her to, and soon after had her own children. She stayed at Chengqian Palace until noon before leaving according to palace regulations, and earnestly advised Consort Tong Jia to send the Fourth Prince away before departing.
