He is angry upon discovering Huo Guangji's wife and children are starving, orders food for them, and tries to mediate between the couple. He is described as having a hot temper but also showing soft-heartedness. He refers to Qin Yu'e as sister-in-law and threatens to deal with Huo Guangji if he continues neglecting his family. He is essentially the matchmaker who pushed the male and female leads together in the original novel plot.
