Liu Shun Zi is a friend and brother figure to Zhao Dashu, referred to as Uncle Shun Zi. He is a villager who initially digs dandelions and mushrooms for income. Zhao Dashu recruits him and his wife, Zheng Shi, to help with the bamboo shoot business, offering them wages of thirty wen each per day. Liu Shun Zi is surprised by Zhao Dashu's sudden wealth and the scale of the operation, but he agrees to cooperate, handling purchases and coordinating with the Village Chief. He values his long-standing brotherhood with Zhao Dashu and advises him to separate from the Zhao Family as soon as possible.
