A craftsman in Liujiawan who has had polio since childhood, affecting his legs and feet. He is of the same generation as Liu Dazhu but younger. He rarely goes out and works from home weaving mats and baskets. Villagers avoid him thinking he is unlucky. He is pleased by visits from Ming Dai and Zhou Sinian and shows kindness toward them. He has good sewing skills producing neat work comparable to a sewing machine. His only regular visitors were the team leader bringing food and his nephew checking on him for inheritance purposes.
