The protagonist, an 18-year-old girl who just finished high school in 1970. She is the daughter of Yang Qingqiu and her deceased ex-husband. She wanted to go to the countryside as a sent-down youth but was strongly opposed by her mother. She is pretty, well-behaved, and has a close relationship with her younger half-brother Lin Ziyou, whom she helped raise. She has a strained relationship with her stepfather's biological children, especially Lin Shu.
