A second-ranked scholar from the Hanlin Academy, also known as Li the bangyan. Xu Duanyi saved him earlier that spring before the imperial exams. He is poor but upright and determined, and has been sending modest gifts to Xu Duanyi in gratitude since achieving his rank.
