The antagonist, a lame and incompetent man who is Secretary Wu's wife's nephew and related to Village Chief Li Chuande. He came from a dirt-poor family and had previously occupied a room in his in-laws' house. He seized the newly built room meant for Old Lin and Old Qi, attacked the two old men with a stool, and falsely accused Su Tong of harboring capitalist tendencies. He is described as a paper tiger who bullies the weak and fears the strong.
