He discovered Xiao Heng after he fainted from hitting his head on a pillar and warned him that the rebel army had broken through the Vermilion Bird Gate. He attempted to shield Xiao Heng from rebel soldiers and helped guide him to the secret passage by the Nine-Bend Pool for escape.
