The Chancellor who served three times and came from a prestigious family. He had deep roots in the court with countless disciples and protégés relying on him. He knew some of the corrupt officials were involved but only offered mild cautions. When the Emperor turned his attention to him, Lü Yijian quickly realized the Emperor wanted to replace him with a more compliant chancellor. He prostrated himself and begged to be stripped of his position as Tong Zhongshu Menxia Pingzhangshi. He was reassigned as Grand Academician of the Hall of Audience, a purely ceremonial position.
