A seven or eight-year-old boy who lives in Changxing Village. He is neatly dressed and polite, unlike other village children. His mother is believed to be a former educated youth who stayed in the village after marrying. He was named Pan'an because he was born like a kitten without even a cry, and his mother named him to keep him safe. He helps Chu Sangning collect pig grass and refuses candy at first but eventually accepts two candies. He is close to his grandmother Lin Xiuzhi.
