Hu Zhiqing is one of the intellectuals living in the commune's youth hostel. She is a female intellectual who was among the two remaining intellectuals in the hostel at the time of the collapse. When the youth hostel collapsed during the night, she was rescued by villagers who dug through the rubble with their bare hands. She was the first intellectual to be found, with villagers shouting We found her! We found Hu Zhiqing! She survived the collapse unharmed, along with the other two intellectuals. After being rescued, she was initially sent to the village doctor for examination and was found to be fine. She was temporarily relocated to Yang's house on the west side of He Wanqing's home while arrangements were made for the intellectuals housing. She is female and serves as a minor character.
