The owner of a bun shop named Xiangmanlou. He is He Yulan's uncle. He has distinctive features: big bulbous eyes, a long face, and a black mole above his left brow. Initially excited and interrogative upon recognizing his niece, he is also somewhat embarrassed by the crowd and eager to handle family matters privately. He lives in a former noble mansion now used as a communal courtyard.
