Gu Beilu's father's cousin, whom Gu Beilu would call tang-shu (paternal cousin uncle). He had a tragic life — orphaned young and too poor to marry even in his 30s or 40s. He died saving a drowning girl, running out of strength and drowning himself. His house was a barely livable mud-walled thatch hut located right next to the educated youth compound.
