The head of the Gu family and father of Gu Mingchen. He and Xie Ting'an had an especially hostile relationship, with every meeting filled with tension. Gu Qiu often praised his son in front of others and mocked Xie Ting'an for being near thirty without a romantic partner or children. He and his wife went on a cruise trip a few months before the story begins and the cruise had an accident in international waters. Their remains were never found and they were declared missing, though it is widely believed they are dead. After their presumed death, Gu Corporation's stock price plummeted and partners withdrew.
