The father of Gu Nianzhi and Gu Nian'an, and husband of Liu-shi (now divorced). He is assigned by the village head to chop firewood for Liu-shi's family for half a month as part of making amends. He is hot-tempered and abusive, grabbing and pushing Gu Nian'an causing a serious hand injury. He later regrets his actions but makes excuses. He is also known as Gu Dazhuang in some parts of the text.
