Granny A Ruan
A lonely old woman with white hair who lives at the east end of Dujiawa village. She leans on a cane and wears clothes washed so often they turned white. She makes a living by going up the mountain to collect medicinal herbs to sell. Despite her own extremely tight days, she deeply cares for Du Heng, even more than a real grandmother. She once worked as an apprentice in a medicine shop in Chang'an's West Market where she learned to recognize medicine names and remember prescriptions. She kept a wooden box entrusted to her by Du Heng's father before he died, to be given to Du Heng when he turned 14. She has a stubborn temper and does not like interacting with people generally.
