Also known as Fan Xiucai, a scholar returning from the capital who is the legitimate son of the Fan family. He deliberately said outlandish words to be sent back to Gu'an Town to escape his stepmother's control. He opened a private school and wanted to provide free education for poor children, though rumors spread that he only charged five taels. He accepted Song Liangzuo without charging tuition, seeing him as the first farmer's child and fulfilling his original intention.
