Dai Lei is the son of Dai Changhai and the brother of Dai Bing. He is portrayed as ungrateful, callous, and abusive towards his elderly parents. He spent his parents' savings on his wedding and house while they searched for Dai Bing. He shows no joy at his sister's return and tries to push his mother when she scolds him. Dai Bing attacks him in response to his behavior.
