Company Commander Zhang is a military officer who visits Yu Ming in the hospital and later confronts Gu Huaishan. He is sharp-eyed, noticing Gu Huaishan hiding a fruit bag, and accuses him of lying about not being close to Song Chunzhi. He claims to have heard Gu Huaishan calling her name in his sleep. He is easily bribed with cigarettes, particularly 'Da Qianmen' brand, and leaves smugly, believing he has outsmarted Gu Huaishan.
