The father of Chu Xiangxue and Chu Yu. In his forties but appears much older with half-white hair and gaunt features from over a year of hard labor after being sent down. He once enjoyed prestige and believed he had a good eye for character. Initially suspicious of Gu Fangbai, wondering if she was after their hidden ancestral assets, but his worries eased after meeting her. He is deeply loving toward his daughter and worried about her future given her class status.
