A young police inspector from the Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard). He is an orphan with a godfather who serves as an official in Downing Street. He recently returned from the battlefield fighting the Afghans. He is tall, well-proportioned, with dark brown sideburns, grayish silver eyes, and deep-set cheekbones. He has a stern demeanor and likely served in the military. In the original story, he eventually becomes the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and uncovers the protagonist's crimes, even sending his godfather to prison.
