He once met the late emperor several times but left the capital to wander freely due to his secluded nature. He was urged by Old Mu to assist Prince Rui in Liuzhou. He persistently investigated Qi Chengming's true character and realized the young prince was extraordinary, not merely delicate. He wrote letters to Magistrate Mu about the hurricane crisis.
