Bai Nianqing is the female protagonist of the story, a modern woman who accidentally gains a mystical space after her blood touches her grandmother's jade bracelet during her grandmother's funeral. She experiences recurring nightmares of ancient people fleeing a drought, which prompts her to withdraw her savings and stockpile essential supplies such as food, water, medicine, and clothing. After an earthquake in Sichuan Province causes a ceiling slab to collapse on her, she loses consciousness and transmigrates to the Daqing Kingdom, becoming the bride of Shen Wenhe. Upon waking, she inherits the memories of the original host, a sixteen-year-old girl named Bai Nianqing whose father, Bai Laoda, was a guard at a courier company and died after being killed by bandits while working as an armed escort. The original host's mother, Madam Bai, died in childbirth after giving birth to a son. The girl was raised by relatives after her fiancé, the son of an escort leader, became involved with her cousin, leading to a changed marriage arrangement that resulted in her being married to Shen Wenhe instead. Bai Nianqing is resourceful, prepared for disasters, and adapts to her new ancient environment while managing the supplies in her space.
