Qin Yi is literally building up this whole internal monologue about how he's going to act cool and the other driver is just... polite? He says 'Big brother, I'm sorry! I rear-ended your car. I'll cover all the expenses myself!' And Qin Yi's entire world view shatters. His internal thought: 'Something's wrong! He shouldn't be acting so polite just because he's a rich kid. And my car isn't even that fancy—he should be looking down on me!' This is comedy gold. The author understands that the humor comes from the gap between what Qin Yi expects and what actually happens. And then Su Xiaowan's line—'Do you want to go through insurance or call the police first?'—so deadpan, so practical, completely unimpressed by the fancy sports car. The young man's eyes light up when she appears, and then he completely gives up when she doesn't care about his car. The dialogue here does so much work: it reveals character, it creates humor, it advances the scene. Every line has a purpose. Qin Yi's internal voice is consistently funny throughout—the novel on Xihongshi reference at the end is the cherry on top.
This tale lacks depth and substance; it presents a pleasant premise, but fails to engage readers with any meaningful challenges or conflicts. The protagonist's journey doesn't encounter any substantial threats, even as an omnipotent character. There's a missed opportunity to explore the MC's growth and秘密力量的 development during their formative years, a common theme in重生主角的故事. The process of keeping the secret, revealing it, and managing its consequences could have added intrigue and complexity.
In this story, the protagonist's upbringing is portrayed as unblemished and overly idealized, akin to a clichéd anime narrative where everyone ultimately finds happiness. The translation, on the other hand, is commendable for its accuracy. Overall, the story lacks depth and character development, which could have made it more engaging for the reader.
