while the story is good, there are alot of repeat paragraphs that we are paying for. we should be awarded a discount.
I picked this up thinking it would be a light read and now I'm staying up way too late. The pacing in these chapters is absolutely relentless. Chapter 5 starts with Ji Rou deciding to go along with the plan, and by the end of Chapter 6 she's not only turned the tables on Young Master Bai but also set up a scandal that's going to blow up the next day. That's a lot of plot for two chapters, and somehow it never feels rushed. The author knows exactly when to speed up and when to let a moment breathe. What I love most is how the cliffhangers are layered. End of Chapter 6: Ji Rou's on the phone with the press, things are going perfectly, and then—*'Slowly, she turned her head—Only to see Shen Xingbai standing there, arms crossed, looking at her with cold mockery in his eyes.'* That is a MASTERCLASS in chapter endings. I literally gasped. And then Chapter 7 starts with the immediate fallout of that confrontation, which keeps the momentum going instead of letting you catch your breath. But it's not all speed. The Xu Qingmei scene in Chapter 8 is a deliberate slow-down, and it works perfectly. After the high-stakes drama of the hotel and the tense Shen Xingbai confrontation, we get a quiet moment of genuine human connection. It gives the reader space to breathe and reminds us what's at stake emotionally, not just plot-wise. Then Chapter 9 opens with 'Ji Rou, I don't care what you did to wrong Shen Xingbai before, but from...' and cuts off. Of course it cuts off. The author is playing with us and I am HERE for it. The structure also does something clever with information reveals. We learn about the Golden Eye ability through Ji Rou's thoughts rather than exposition. We understand Shen Xingbai's rebirth status through his actions and dialogue. The author trusts the reader to piece things together, which makes the reading experience feel more active and engaging.
