I need to talk about the stove scene because it is literally the most chaotic, hilarious, and deeply satisfying thing I have ever read in my life. Lin Wan chasing Old Madam Lu into the stove pit, deliberately missing but making enough noise to deafen her temporarily—this is peak comedy gold. The old woman burying herself like an ostrich thinking she'd be safe, covered in ash, seeing stars, ears ringing like a "chaotic orchestra." I was wheezing. But then it hit me why this was so emotionally powerful too. This woman has spent years abusing her daughters-in-law, tearing notebooks, hitting people, and getting away with it because everyone in this family is too afraid or too conditioned to fight back. And Lin Wan? She's not even trying to actually hurt her. She's just making her feel the same fear and disorientation that all those years of abuse created. It's poetic justice served with a side of slapstick. And the malted milk moment? Lin Wan finding jars of it that were bought with Lu Zhengting's money and immediately making it for the kids? That's the kind of detail that makes you realize she's not just fighting for herself—she's building something. She's creating a family unit where people are fed and protected. The scene where she checks his wounds after and writes him a note asking why he let her hit him, and he just says "It's nothing" and then smiles—that quiet tenderness between them? I'm not okay.
