i recommend this book to those who like a little conflict, denying there emotions and the struggles they go through to finally get where there need to be, I hope this book is finished soon i cant wait to see how it ends

'This section had me literally holding my breath.' That's all I can say about the chase sequence. The pacing here is absolutely relentless. Short sentences. Fragments. 'Huff… huff…' Her heart pounding like a drum. The enforcers closing in. And then—sudden stillness. They arrive at the ruined temple and the entire tempo shifts. It's like the author pressed pause on the world. What's brilliant is how the chase itself is structured. It starts with a normal interaction, builds through the teacher's warning, then explodes into danger. The author doesn't give you a breather between the threat and the flight. Li Mian is running before you even realize you're supposed to be worried. And when she trips and gets caught? The tension peaks. The woman is spitting fury, about to haul her off—and then Ajian appears. The release of tension when he grabs the enforcer's wrist is almost physical. You exhale. But then the author does something even smarter. Instead of resolving everything, they raise new stakes. Ajian is injured. They're still in danger. The enforcers are recovering. And just as you think things are settling, they bolt again. The pacing never lets you get comfortable. Once they reach the temple, the structure shifts completely. Longer sentences. More description. The conversation about the murals. The sweet potatoes. The teaching scene. It's a deliberate deceleration that makes the emotional beats hit harder. The naming ceremony—'From now on, your name will be Li Jian'—lands with enormous weight precisely because the author took the time to slow down and let us breathe. The structure serves the emotion. Every pacing choice feels intentional.
Really good! Can’t wait for the next one (do I sense 2 mates in the east?) with having a focus on the dragons as well!!!
This book series is the only one i love to reread here because i discover something new and relevent each time.
