Anyone else struggling with this? I feel like its got good bones but everything feels. . . choppy and robotic. . . like sometimes i feel like i have no idea whats going on, the incessant need to use different names for one person even when theres only a single person seems over used and redundant to the point where you feel like they are talking about multiple people instead of one. . . the FL is robotic and even though she says she likes him it seems more like shes thinking about everything too clinically and cold, like shes dissecting the relationship and how it should be like shes trying to do it all locigally instead of emotionally. . .
This story truly portrays what it means to have polygamy in ancient times and what a woman had to go through in a harem. This is truly a realistic story. If I didn't know any better, I would say this is a true story.
The FL is a transmigrator who is a fighter. I admire her steadfast and consistent peraonality. The ML also portrays a 3 dimensional character. He portrays how fickle men can be and I empathizes with him. He was truly a powerful man, worthy of his marquis status. I feel helpless for him too when it comes to handling his backyard (harem). Its not easy for men too, I guess. Still dont like him tho. I mean, he's a guy. I empathise more with women since Im a woman myself. Hehe
In short, dont expect sweet romance from this. This is a story how marriage is during ancient times. Its bloody and its a swirl of different emotions. For the women, its survival.

Chinese propaganda what can you say. As if chinese weren't racist themselves.
Weak characterization and rushed delivery. Both the main character (MC) and the male lead (ML) have serious psychological issues that are exploited for drama rather than thoughtfully addressed. In chapter 41, the author even pulls the "ML loves you so you are not allowed to hate him" gaslighting tactic after months of public humiliation and violent sexual abuse, which is then brushed off with a vague apology and the excuse that it was due to a misunderstanding. Many reviewers are criticizing the MC for being too heartless, but in reality, the crimes committed by ML would have warranted much harsher consequences if his victims had any say. For the MC to merely crush his spirit a little and leave is nothing more than a slap on the wrist, not that the MC is without their own flaws.
After arc 3, ML is rewarded for all his rape, torture, and malice with a romantic resolution. This is not my cup of tea. The arcs are resolved cheaply, as is the frame narrative in the final chapters. The descriptions are also repetitive, making it very tiring to read. My faith in Chrysanthemum Garden's novel quality control has taken a hit.

But hard to read. Translation feels off and wording doesn’t really work well in English. Ch.98 why did they go from pesos to gold? Confused on that part but I’ll accept it as they both are currency but it’s weird. Not a bad read but not a fantastically good one.
I don't doubt that this novel is amazing, but I'm just gonna stick with the manga. Reading both at the same time gets confusing as hell.
