Another amazing book form the guardians series and Cooper (the author). This was a total roller coaster of emotions. You won’t regret reading these books
This was the best book I don’t care how much money I spend but it’s was so exciting and amazing journey David had.

The dialogue in these chapters is so distinctively voiced it's almost uncanny. Let me just drop a few lines that stuck with me. Chu Mochen: 'Wife, there is a saying that a day of marriage brings a hundred days of grace...' and Lin Yanran's reply without even looking up: 'Just because I was once married to you, I can no longer eat snacks I like?' That exchange is COMEDY GOLD. The way she deflects his attempt at moral positioning with something so mundane and petty—it's devastating and hilarious at the same time. Then there's Sun Xinrou, and her voice is completely different. She's all performative humility: 'My Lord, older sister, please forgive us... it is just the filial heart of children.' But then the moment Lin Yanran slaps her, you can feel Sun Xinrou's internal calculation shift in real time. Her dialogue goes from practiced sweetness to genuine terror in one beat. And Chu Mochen's final speech to Sun Xinrou—'Within this estate, whatever the Mistress says is law. If the Mistress strikes you, you will endure it.' That's not just dialogue, that's a man laying down the law of his own defeat. He's essentially telling his mistress to accept her place as subservient, and the tragedy is he thinks he's protecting her. The narrative voice itself is also worth noting—it's dry, observant, occasionally sardonic. The line 'Lin Yanran felt no inclination to spare them, as they were the beneficiaries stealing resources from her own children' is narration that's basically winking at the reader.
