This is the moment where the entire story condenses into one gesture. He doesn't say anything. He just holds out his hand, fingers slightly spread, leaving just enough space for another hand to fit. And Wei Zhenye understands immediately. He takes it. That's it. That's the scene. The world around them—the river, the birds, the bridge they've crossed so many times metaphorically—fades into background. What matters is the hand that fits. And then the mother calls and He Zheng turns his head away, giving them privacy, watching the view instead of watching them hold hands. The visual composition of that scene is *chef's kiss*. Later, at the Japanese restaurant, the text describes it as "elegant and minimalist, every dish plated with meticulous artistry"—and He Zheng in his casual clothes feels out of place until Wei Zhenye strips off his suit jacket to match him. The contrast between the cold, formal world of the entertainment industry and the warm, intimate world of their car ride is so sharp. And He Linlin on the sofa in her loose nightgown, staring at a grayish photo, the congee going cold—that domestic stillness against the backdrop of grief. The author doesn't just describe places, they describe emotional weather.
The translation is exceptional, and the main character is likable. The storyline is captivating, but unfortunately, I couldn't continue due to the protagonist's toxic behavior towards anyone who tried to be friendly with him. This might not be a deal-breaker for everyone, but those who are sensitive to such dynamics might still enjoy the story.
I must express my profound admiration for the entire novel; it was truly extraordinary. Throughout various significant and minor events, and particularly after reaching the conclusion, the memory of Bai Xun effortlessly riding on Gao Yaun's bicycle to school on that initial day continued to resonate in my mind. It served as the catalyst for an intricate narrative, where Bai Xun's poignant life unfolded from this seemingly mundane moment. The series of events that followed led to a melancholic outcome, with the devastating consequences affecting multiple lives.
Additionally, this book taught me the importance of not dismissing the tragedy warnings, as I initially overlooked them until I reached the heart-wrenching yet eerily captivating ending. Despite its somber note, I still found myself thoroughly engaged and moved by the story.
It's somewhat confusing without the *****, but it isn't hard after a hundred chapters or so

If you are looking for a smart female lead and a well thought out story line, this is not it. It's an ok quick read but the beginning is very rushed and there's a time jump right away. It takes the author 15 chapters of internal dialog from the FL POV to describe 2 days and 3 nights. The FL is not very bright so it's a bit painful to read her going in a loop and the sex isn't even steamy to make up for the lack of creativity. Also, considering she is supposed to be a noble, her villa only has 1 bedroom an attic and 1 bathroom with no servants... like, huh?
