A really nice novel if you have a grasp of the Chinese cultural context around "death."
I love this novel. It primarily focuses on the wuchang profession, but the romance is also very sweet. There are both intense and light-hearted moments, and the pacing is well-balanced for the main character's job. The author is known for taking their time with romantic developments (it picks up around chapter 50), which might be slow for some readers, but I found it perfectly fine.

To truly savor it, one must actively interpret, which can be frustrating. Despite its potential, I struggled to continue beyond Chapter 7, as the experience became unbearable for me.
The current hype around it is a bit excessive, so I gave it a lower rating. Truthfully, it's more like a 3-star read. The plot revolves around a girl with extraordinary linguistic abilities, capable of effortlessly mastering new languages and excelling beyond native speakers. The interactions between her and other characters are heartwarming, but the story lacks depth as she sails through without much adversity – a classic example of an overpowered protagonist tale, with a touch of yuri due to the gender twist.
The major issue lies in how the author handles her powers; it comes across as overly artificial and clichéd. Characters praise her every move, almost as if tailored for admiration. It's unrealistic that everyone would adore her, and her abilities aren't fully fleshed out. The story seems stagnant, with no room for growth or surprises. It's a repetitive cycle of her gaining popularity, learning more languages, and receiving constant adoration.
If you're looking for a light, fluffy read that requires minimal engagement, it might be passable. But if you crave something more substantial, this might not be the book for you.

Their interactions are sweet, but they feel repetitive, lacking novelty. I don't mind a low-drama story, but the MC's disengagement pushes me away, as I crave more involvement from her, even in her thoughts.
A spoiler: During pregnancy, when a thief tries to cause trouble, the MC's reaction is solely focused on her hunger, which is frustrating. It's predictable that the ML would hide the incident from her later.
The MC's limited involvement in helping others or reacting to situations beyond her family and friends is noticeable after 100+ chapters. While I appreciate the focus on other characters, I wish for the MC to be more proactive and engaged. Unfortunately, this isn't the type of story I'm looking for.
