I read Queen of Ace first and then came back to this one and really enjoyed both. They both deal with women facing difficult decisions and processing a lot of emotion.

I appreciate the intricate family dynamics, the captivating mystery surrounding Shi Jin's tragic demise, the well-developed supporting characters, but above all, the relationship between the main characters is simply exquisite. Their bond is incredibly healthy and loving; it's evident why they care for each other so deeply, given their thoughtful and considerate nature. They treat each other with such kindness that it feels like they were meant to be together. Surprisingly, I didn't mind the initial obliviousness of the protagonist, as the author didn't overemphasize it; it's refreshing to witness a mature romance built on open communication and mutual respect.
The way the author portrays their dates, filled with thoughtful gestures, tugs at my heartstrings. The MC's desire for the ML to experience things he missed in the past creates beautiful moments. Although the romance doesn't have a rapid progression, it's a welcome change from typical misunderstandings and forced drama. It's lovely to see their affection for each other without resorting to clichés.
Both main characters are competent and intelligent, showcasing their skills without becoming overly powerful. The supporting characters, especially the Guas, are fantastic, adding depth to the relationship dynamics. The system is an unexpected delight, with its charming banter and occasional helpful bonuses, setting it apart from typical narrative elements.
The setting is more engaging than anticipated, despite the unusual legal underworld backdrop. The political intrigue and inter-group relationships add complexity to the story. The portrayal of brotherly bonds is another strength, with each sibling's evolving relationship with the MC being a highlight. Even the "bad" characters like Fei Yujing, the second brother, have moments of growth and redemption, making them more relatable.
The mystery aspect is well-paced and thought-provoking, centering around the deceased Shi Xingrui. The revelations are captivating,尽管故事有时会 delve into darker territory. The translator does an excellent job of preparing readers for these intense scenes.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoy this novel, particularly the romantic aspect. The translator deserves credit for their outstanding work. I hope to see more development for the supporting characters, including the brothers, in future chapters.
