I have to give massive credit to the dialogue writing here because every single character has a voice that is immediately distinguishable, and I don't say that enough in web novels. Sister-in-law Shan'er is the standout. Her entrance is pure energy: 'Hey there, sister!' 'Psh, what respects or no respects!' 'Oh goodness! Why did both of us go ahead and eat ours!' She's loud, warm, decisive, and she physically whirls around fetching her husband before anyone can protest. You can hear her voice before you even see her name in the text. She's the kind of neighbor who would carry you a bucket of water without being asked and then loudly tell everyone about it. Then you've got Sister-in-law Liu, and her dialogue is basically passive-aggression with a side of performative generosity. 'Well aren't you eager to play the good Samaritan, Shan'er.' 'I didn't say I wasn't going to help! Look at that mouth of yours!' She's the woman who will 'help' you move so she can stand in your courtyard and make everyone else look bad. Classic. And Sister Wang? Her dialogue is almost nonexistent because she barely speaks at all. 'It's sweet!' is basically her entire contribution, and it's perfect because it tells us everything about her — she's honest, simple, and genuinely moved by small things. Her silence speaks volumes next to the other two. The bantering between the women outside the gate before Shan'er even appears is also brilliant worldbuilding through dialogue. You learn about marriage customs, economic status, gender dynamics, and village gossip all through what amounts to women yelling across a field. And Shen Huaijing's single line — 'I am Shen Huaijing, Song Xia's husband' — is perfectly calibrated. Polite, formal, brief. He doesn't overshare. He says exactly what's needed and nothing more. That's a character who chooses his words like weapons.
