The pacing in this passage is actually insane when you think about it. We start with this almost meditative observation—'She had maintained an almost unchanged pace for so long.' It's calm. Almost boring if you're not paying attention. And then BOOM, we're inside Jiang Muxue's head and suddenly everything is tense. The author doesn't rush this. They let us sit in Jiang Muxue's desperation, her need to find a crack, her refusal to believe Shen Qingyu is made of iron. Then the pivot: Shen Qingyu stops. The narrative slows down even more for that single moment of eye contact. 'Met her eyes, clearly catching the glint of calculation in them.' You can feel the scene holding its breath right there. And then the dialogue drops like a mic. Short, polite, devastating. The structure here is basically a pressure cooker—build tension slowly, let it simmer, then release it in one perfectly timed line of dialogue. No cliffhanger at the end, no dramatic pause, just Shen Qingyu delivering her line and the scene moving on. Which is honestly the most powerful choice because it shows how normal this dynamic has become for her. This isn't a big moment anymore, it's just Tuesday. And that's somehow even more impressive.

Really hard to follow when men Shang to women. Names change to ones that have never been mentioned. Why is Edmund Leon and why is Lily, vana. Is Nina a man or women? So confusing and so hard to follow the story line. Too. Much to keep guessing. Even mocha is referred to as a man.
