Alright, initially I read "This Damn Thirst for Survival," and many comments mentioned similarities with another story. Since it was on my reading list, I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. Although the premise had some common ground, the execution was vastly different, especially considering the author of TDTFS has a knack for crafting compelling enemy-to-lovers narratives.
The villain, often referred to as "the devil," wasn't portrayed as truly evil in my opinion. His actions were manipulative, but not to the extent of the other players'恶意. The prophecy about killing the devil felt forced, as the main character, despite being supposedly intelligent, blindly followed it without much reasoning. Their rivalry was shallow, simply driven by hearsay and the author's attempt to label it as an enemy-to-lovers plot.
The character development was lackluster, with no proper build-up or progression. The supposed "antisocial" nature of the male lead was inconsistent – he displayed emotions towards others but not the protagonist. The romance felt rushed and unconvincing, with no emotional depth or development.
In contrast, TDTFS had a stronger foundation for their conflict and character growth. The relationship dynamics in that story were more nuanced and engaging. This novel, however, fell short. The characters were one-dimensional, the plot dragged, and the writing was monotonous. Overall, it's an average read, suitable for passing the time but certainly not exceptional.
