"I'm already used to it. After all, both the name and the nature of my ability are overflowing with that edgy, over-the-top 'chuunibyou' vibe." This line right here sets the tone for everything. The worldbuilding in this story is so clever because it doesn't stop at "people have special abilities in Yokohama." No, it goes deeper into how that affects everyday life, social dynamics, and even the most mundane things like where you choose to rent an apartment. Let me talk about Tsuboi's apartment because the description is genuinely vivid. It's on the second floor of a low-rise apartment near the harbor—cheap materials, lightweight steel construction, minimal maintenance fees. The kind of place where neighbors are people you barely see. But here's the genius detail: most tenants are low-level port Mafia personnel, so disappearing for a while and coming back raises no eyebrows. The manager only shows up to collect rent. This is a world where criminal activity is so normalized that your landlord literally doesn't care what you do as long as you pay on time. And the harbor setting itself is atmospheric. You can almost smell the salt air, see the sunset reflecting off the water, hear the distant sounds of ships. When Oda and Tsuboi sit on the steps watching the sunset, the scene shifts from tense confrontation to something almost peaceful. The wind tousling Oda's reddish-brown hair, the golden light—it's cinematic in a way that makes you forget these two were literally just trying to kill each other an hour ago. The world feels alive because it's not just a backdrop. It's a character in itself. Yokohama has its own economy, its own hierarchy, its own unspoken rules. And the fact that there's "more than enough work" for assassins here, with an employment rate second only to Hakata, tells us so much about this world without any exposition dumps.
