Phenomenal book! Great story and character development. It’s an emotional roller coaster you cannot step of. It is a love story and a coming of age story. I will say there are only a few intimate scenes but it’s excellent none the less. This should be in print. One of the best on this app

And in that instant, the ground disappears beneath him. But what really breaks my heart—or makes me hate him, I'm not sure which—is the Heir detail. When Wen Lingrao reveals he stole from the child, the text says 'He had indeed acted despicably in this matter.' And you understand why. He didn't just steal from the household. He stole from a boy who trusted him. Who asked for money and was told there was none, while Chu Huan pocketed it. The servants watching all this unfold—they're not just witnesses. They're people who've lived under this man's management for years. Some of them probably knew something was wrong but were too afraid to speak. Now the Princess Consort is giving them permission to see the truth. There's something deeply satisfying about that, and something deeply sad too.
