The pacing in this batch is genuinely masterful. Let me trace it: Chapter 15 opens with social tension at the banquet, Qu Lianjie harasses Shengmei, Andy intervenes, the heavy industry figure appears and Qu Lianjie flees—climax of that scene. Then they laugh it off, the banquet ends, they drive home, Shengmei films the skyline. A quiet moment. Then BAM—rent increase text message. The low hits you right after the high. Chapter 16 starts with the viral numbers reveal—another high, pure joy, hugging Andy in the hallway. Then Qu Xiaoxiao appears to puncture it, but Shengmei turns it around. Then the concert ticket subplot with Guan Ju'er adds this gentle social tension. And then Old Hu's call. The structure is basically: banquet tension → viral success → social comedy → emotional devastation. Each chapter ends on a note that pivots the tone entirely. The concert preparation scene at the end of Chapter 17 is brilliant pacing because it gives us a breathing room after the crying scene, but it's laced with underlying sadness—we know she pressed chilled spoons on her swollen eyes. The author never lets us settle into one emotional register for too long. It's restless, like Shengmei's life.
