I am enjoying the story, however parts are rushed and a bit all over the place
I need to talk about Yang Zhigang because this man is genuinely one of the most wholesome characters I've ever encountered in any novel, and I don't use that word lightly. While everyone else is either causing drama or being selfish, this man rides his motorcycle through a crowd of gawkers just to show up and say 'those fish were caught by Xiaorui, I just helped her sell them.' That's it. That's the whole moment. No grand speech, no performative heroics. Just showing up and telling the truth. And then when Zhang Xiufang accuses him of having an affair — 'Oh, you call her Xiaorui so sweetly! Have you been bewitched by this new fox spirit?' — his reaction is so perfectly human. He gets genuinely angry, raises his hand, and then... stops himself. He could've hit her. He wanted to. But he didn't. That restraint says more about his character than any heroic speech ever could. The moment that absolutely destroyed me was when he turns his back on Zhang Xiufang and walks away. Not a word. Just... leaves her there with the police. After everything she's done, after she's his wife — he chooses Han Xiaorui and his granddaughters. 'Han Xiaorui will always be the mother of my granddaughters, Pingping and An'an.' That line hit me like a truck. Meanwhile, Wu Cuicui is this quietly brilliant character who understands the social dynamics perfectly. She's the bridge between Han Xiaorui and the community, the one who explains things without gossiping, who genuinely wants to help but also knows when to step back. And Ye Feng — military uniform, calm authority, just... there. Supporting without taking over. The character dynamics in this passage are so rich. Every relationship feels earned and real.
