Let's talk about He Yanzhi for a second because this man does not waste words and that's exactly why his actions hit so hard. Throughout the entire warm house banquet, he's quiet—observant, reserved, occasionally glancing at Chen Shuang with this softness he can't quite hide. Yan Yunfei even nudges him and says "you really hit the jackpot," and He Yanzhi just clinks his cup and drinks. No boasting, no performative happiness. Just contentment. But then comes the bag. The olive-green canvas bag. Nearly a thousand yuan—his entire military savings, accumulated through years of gunfire and hardship—and he hands it to Chen Shuang like it's the most natural thing in the world. "You'll manage the household from now on. Spend as you see fit." No conditions, no strings, no "I trust you to be careful." Just pure, unfiltered trust. In a time and place where a woman's financial dependence was expected and often enforced, this is revolutionary. He's not just giving her money; he's giving her autonomy, dignity, and a seat at the table as an equal partner. And Chen Shuang? She doesn't cry, doesn't make a speech. She just grips the bag, meets his gaze, and says "I will. Don't worry, I'll manage the home well." Two sentences. That's all it takes to show she understands exactly what he's doing and she's ready to rise to it. These two people communicate in glances and gestures and silence, and it's the most honest relationship I've ever read about. What more could you want from a marriage?
Must read. Highly recommend.
First love of Muse books, honestly still the best no matter how many other books i read! Incredible work
I am really enjoying reading this story. I hope Eric the cheater gets his karma for his embezzlement and taking all her stuff from her family. He needs to give her all properties back. Addicted!
Author does an excellent job of steamy scenes, although it would be nice to read the male lead’s point of view. Female lead, Linda can be a bit frustrating, but keep in mind that she’s viewing male lead and mermen from a sheltered academic viewpoint.
