Very good!!! Love it!
How is this book now marked as Completed???? Very disappointing ending!!!!!
Such a great and lighthearted book. Loved every chapter of Clay and Xenia's love story, and the doggo's POVs were just the cherry on top! Excellent work!
I am not okay. I am genuinely not okay with this kid. Lu Yunchi says 'Dad's not here, so I'm the only man in the house. It's my duty to protect the family!' and I think my heart actually exploded. He just fell to the ground, cried real tears maybe, scared himself half to death confronting those women, and then stood up and told Li Mian not to worry because HE would protect her. This child has been through hell and his first instinct is still to be brave for someone else. And the moment where he hides behind Li Mian when Li Jiaojiao reaches for him — 'his eyes wary, like a frightened little deer' — that detail wrecked me. This kid has every reason to distrust adults. His mother is gone, his father is busy, and the only family he has left are people who abused Li Mian. And yet he still lets her scoop him onto her lap. Still lets her pinch his face. Still trusts her enough to whisper the truth about why he's been mean to her. The father-son reunion at the end also hit different. Lu Tingbo comes home in his military uniform, all stern and imposing, and the second he sees his son his face softens. 'Mm, I'm back.' Two words and suddenly I'm crying over a fictional dinner scene. The way Li Mian watches this exchange and her heart races — she's starting to feel something, isn't she? The romantic tension is simmering but it's the found-family warmth that's really carrying this story for me.
