Loving this book so much already...
I read 140 or so chapters, and I eventually couldn't take the stereotypical cultivation novel with childish cringe interactions. I thought from the first chapter it would be a lot funnier at least to make the other negatives manageable, but it really isn't funny.

I really want to finish this novel but 30 chapters in and my head hurts trying to understand what i read, like sometimes the sentence made sense sometimes its like mumble jumble of words.

In my review, I gave it a 4-star rating, which can be broken down into a 4.5-star translation aspect (despite some spelling errors, the translation is generally strong and consistent) and a 3-star story content. The concept itself is intriguing – having the protagonist react to strangers' words is a unique premise. I would have loved to explore that further. However, the story abruptly ends after Chapter 10, and what follows is a typical Chinese novel formula – focusing on appearance, wealth, and gossip. Even the supposedly non-material characters come across as shallow. There's a chapter where the kind and beautiful female lead mocks another woman's looks, all because of a miscommunication and her desire to date the main character, a basketball prodigy and tech genius. This reveals a disappointing lack of depth.
Overall, it serves as a decent representation of its genre (modern Chinese wish-fulfillment tale), but the wasted potential of turning the initial concept into a superficial, stereotypical story about a perfect male model is regrettable.
I had previously read this novel when it was only around 60 chapters, so I decided to revisit it when I discovered it had been updated to 120 chapters! Despite the expansion, it was such an engaging read that it felt like starting anew – I finished it in under an hour, though, which left me wanting more! This story is perfect for my taste.
Both main characters resonate with me. The constant tension between them was captivating, and I thoroughly enjoyed the complex chemistry between them. It was the ideal dynamic for me.
If you appreciate twisted or detached protagonists, this novel might be right up your alley. Both leads aren't mentally stable; their perspectives on the world aren't conventional. In essence, they both crave control and manipulate others.
A spoiler alert: It appears that the leads are fated adversaries, with similarities and differences. The male lead is already deeply disturbed, while the protagonist retains a sense of wildness, believing it's integral to his identity. As the protagonist comes from a peaceful, real-world background, he may display apathy but still possesses humanity. In contrast, the male lead takes pleasure in others' struggles and conflicts. Despite their shared traits, they remain distinct individuals.
In conclusion, give this novel a try if you're interested in exploring these unique character dynamics.
