The dialogue between Wen Shanyi and Shen Jiaojiao in the car is absolutely delicious. Let me just quote the exchange because it's too good: "How about I treat you to a meal?" "Alright." "Huh?" "What do you plan to treat me to?" This is such a perfect power move disguised as politeness. He catches her casual offer and flips it back on her in the most charming way. And her internal panic when she realizes he actually agreed — "She gritted her teeth, her lively and bright eyes darting around repeatedly. It was obvious she was searching for some excuse" — the narration here is doing so much work. Wen Shanyi's voice is consistently cool and measured, but the author lets cracks appear. When he says "Stop moving" his tone is "no longer cool and detached, his voice dropping even lower" — that shift from his normal register to something more intimate is everything. And that "soft chuckle" he lets escape? The narration calls it "subtle and ambiguous, as if carrying some hidden meaning." He's enjoying this. He's enjoying HER. Meanwhile Shen Jiaojiao's dialogue is much more flustered and reactive — she's the one stammering, apologizing, trying to escape social situations. But there's a moment where she gives him "a slightly exasperated look" when he predicts the rain, and later she "secretly glares at him" when she realizes he's teasing her. She's not entirely passive, which I appreciate. The father-daughter exchange with Shen Zhenghao is more formal and transactional, which creates a nice contrast — business vs. desire, duty vs. want.
